Emergency Closings

Unscheduled Closings
In the event of inclement weather, an emergency, or an unforeseen circumstance, it may be necessary to close the library. The library director or designated staff member will decide whether to close early, delay opening, or not open at all. The primary factor of any decision will be the safety of the staff and library users. Maximum effort will be made to maintain regular hours if feasible.
  1. In the event of severe weather, the library director will make a recommendation to the Chair or Vice Chair to close or delay opening. The National Weather Service will be checked, as will WMUR and the Town of Rindge for other closings in the area.
  2. In the event of mechanical failures or other emergencies occurring within the building (loss of power with generator failure, lack of heat, staffing situations, etc.), the director will consult with the Chair or Vice Chair in deciding whether to close the building.
  3. The library will close if any building issue results in a lack of bathroom facilities.
  4. The library will close if the Governor of NH issues a statewide emergency.
Notification
The Board of Trustees, director of DPW and all scheduled staff members and volunteers will be notified of the closing. Anyone signed up to use a meeting room or registered to attend a program will also be notified.
The library director or designated staff member will notify the public of any closures by posting on the library’s website, social media accounts and WMUR if possible. If possible, a sign will be posted on the library entrances.
